About

Hi, I’m Josh. I’m the husband of a super amazing wife and dad of four great kids. We don’t have a dog. I work full time, and for some reason also thought it would be a good idea to add a side business.

What really happened is that I bought a CNC router. I couldn’t help it. (This is his wife writing now – he could help it. He helped it for months while he worked on the side and saved up for the router.) Then I realized I needed some more tools to support it. I also needed a place to put it. So I bought a 12’x16′ shed and moved it to my house. In went the router. Then I started adding the “few” other tools I needed. Before I knew it I had a basic but reasonably complete woodshop. And I really enjoy working in it. So what else was there to do but start a business, a blog, and an online store? Sleep every now and then, maybe?

I grew up woodworking with my Dad and brothers, and loved making things. We built all sorts of things, from cabinets to go karts to clocks. Somewhere in my teens I got interested in welding, and got away from working with wood. I still like metalworking (plus it’s my day job), but am finding a lot of enjoyment in getting back to wood. There are so many varieties with different characteristics and colors – I especially enjoy mixing different species together in a project.

I have a ton to learn, not only about woodworking, but also CNC, business – the list goes on. My hope is to make this blog enjoyable as well as instructive. I’ll try to show my mistakes as well as my successes. The way I do things will not always be the “right” way, the safest way, or the best way. But I should have fun doing it.

I have a few goals with the website:

  1. Build the business.
  2. Share woodworking projects, plans and tips.
  3. Let readers follow along as I learn.
  4. Make money.

Yes, I do want to make money. I probably won’t get rich in this endeavor, but some extra income would be welcome. Part of the motivation behind starting the business is that we are currently building a large home addition out of pocket. With material costs what they are right now (especially here in Alaska), every little bit helps. And, who knows? Once people see my work, they might be lining up, begging to offer me enormous amounts of cash just to get their hands on it. Wishful thinking, maybe?

I want to thank my wife for her support of this whole thing – She has done a ton to help set up the blog. She’s amazing. Also, our kids, for the joy they are, and their excitement about going out and working in “The Shed.” And above all, I want to thank Jesus, my Saviour, for His forgiveness and the many blessings He has bestowed.

I hope you enjoy reading along as we get this show on the road.

Josh
